Candyman and The Marvels director Nia DaCosta is reportedly in talks to direct the second entry in the upcoming 28 Years Later trilogy.
Nia DaCosta Returning to the Horror Genre?
The trilogy will follow on from Boyle’s 2002 movie 28 Days Later, where a virus wreaks havoc on the UK, causing the infected to become rage-addled monsters.
While the first entry will be helmed by Danny Boyle, he was only ever down to direct that, with sequel directors left unconfirmed.
DaCosta would still have Alex Garland on board as writer and producer, with Boyle also producing, and Cillian Murphy as executive producer. Keeping a continuity around each entry.
It’s been reported and rumored that Cillian Murphy may reprise his role from the 2002 28 Days Later, and Killing Eve star Jodie Comer has recently been linked to a role in the film also.
DaCosta wrote and directed her debut film, Little Woods, essentially back-to-back-to-back with her take on Candyman and MCU movie The Marvels. She’s currently on writing, directing, and producing detail for the film Hedda with Tessa Thompson, based on the stage play Hedda Gabler.
There’s no word on who will direct the third entry in the Sony-back 28 Years Later trilogy, but hopefully, it’ll be another newer genre voice like DaCosta.
Beyond what the title implies, there are no details on what 28 Years Later and its sequels will be about, but it’s said it may brush aside 28 Weeks Later, in which Boyle and Garland had little involvement.
