As of March 2024, there is no official confirmation about a Frozen Empire sequel. However, the cast and crew members told Total Film that they would love to return for future Ghostbusters projects.
“Jason [Reitman] and I really love Ghostbusters,” said director Gil Kenan. “We love these characters and we would be really happy if audiences were down to keep going on adventures with them. If audiences feel this way, then we know what the next stories are going to be.”
Carrie Coon echoed Kenan’s sentiment, “Absolutely! There’s something so thrilling about working on these movies, especially as a woman. We’re not often asked to participate in the adventure or the physical elements of movies like this. We’re often just on the sidelines, so to be thrown into the action has been a real thrill. On top of that… Well, it’s already going to be in my obituary, so I might as well lean in.”
Like most franchise films, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire has a mid-credits scene. In it (spoilers warning), a group of Mini-Pufts appropriates a tractor-trailer transporting Stay-Puft Marshmallows at a gas station and drives away. It doesn’t necessarily set up a potential sequel. However, Kenan revealed to Entertainment Weekly that he and Reitman had plans for the little monsters.
“Jason and I definitely have a story up our sleeves that continues that narrative thread,” Kenan said. “There’s more trouble where that came from. Nothing we can talk about yet, but it feels like those guys have way more story to tell.”
The cast of Ghostbusters 5: Frozen Empire includes Mckenna Grace as Phoebe Spengler, Paul Rudd as Gary Grooberson, Carrie Coon as Callie Spengler, and Finn Wolfhard as Trevor Spengler. Bill Murray as Peter Venkman, Dan Aykroyd as Ray Stantz, Ernie Hudson as Winston Zeddemore, Annie Potts as Janine Melnitz, and William Atherton as Walter Peck also appear in the film.
