Arthur the King: Does the Dog Die or Survive in the Movie?

People are wondering if the dog in Arthur the King, based on the non-fiction book Arthur: The Dog Who Crossed the Jungle to Find a Home, dies or survives in the movie. Here is everything you need to know.

Does the dog die in Arthur the King?

No, Arthur the dog does not die in Arthur the King.

Arthur the dog is shown surviving the events of the movie. At the end of the film, Michael takes Arthur to a veterinarian in a small town to help heal the dog. However, the vet says that the dog’s wounds are infected and infested with maggots and that nothing can be done about it except to make him comfortable. The vet also tells Michael that the dog’s chances of survival are low to none even if he takes it back to the United States.

However, Michael, unbending in his desire to save the dog, gets help from fans on social media and other racers inspired by him and Arthur and gets a plane that takes the dog to the U.S. to get treated by a vet.

Then 18 months later, Arthur is shown to be happy and healthy running in the hills alongside Michael by the latter’s home.

As per Screenrant, while the movie takes place in 2018, the real-life Michael or Mikael Lindnord met Arthur in 2014. After bonding, Arthur became a part of Mikael’s family and stayed with them for six years only to pass away in December 2020 after being diagnosed with a malignant tumor. The dog was reportedly between 11 and 13 years of age at the time of its death. The movie’s shoot apparently began just weeks before Arthur’s demise.

Moreover, Mikael has not adopted any another canine after Arthur’s death, Screenrant reported.
