The Big Cigar Release Date Set for Apple TV+ Miniseries

Apple TV+ has announced The Big Cigar release date for its upcoming biographical thriller drama starring Selma’s André Holland as Black Panther founder Huey P. Newton. The miniseries is scheduled to make its debut on May 17 with the first two episodes, followed by new episodes every Friday through June 14.

“It is the incredible true story of Hollywood revolution meeting social revolution: it’s a wild caper of Black Panther founder Newton escaping from the FBI to Cuba with the assistance of famed producer Bert Schneider in an impossibly elaborate plan — involving a fake movie production — that goes wrong every way it possibly can. And somehow, it’s all true. Mostly,” reads the synopsis.

Who’s involved in The Big Cigar?

Based on Joshuah Bearman’s 2012 Playboy magazine article, The Big Cigar is written and executive produced by Jim Hecht, with Janine Sherman serving as its showrunner. In addition to Holland, the cast also includes Alessandro Nivola, Tiffany Boone, P. J. Byrne, Marc Menchaca, Moses Ingram, Rebecca Dalton, Olli Haaskivi, Jordane Christie, and Glynn Turman. The creative team also includes Marvel vet Don Cheadle, who is also directing and executive producing the first two episodes. Bearman, Barrois, Joshua Davis, and Arthur Spector are also set as executive producers. It is a production by Warner Bros. Television.
